Adding a program note to your printed material — concert programs, handouts, CDs, ensemble & personal websites — is a good way to bring the Climate Message to people’s attention. Here’s the one I used on my recent CD project, “The Beauty of Khyal.”
Dear Friends: climate change threatens the stable civilization that has allowed these complex and beautiful traditions to flourish. Please learn as much as you can about the climate crisis and the threat it presents to the music we cherish.
For a CD release of Indian classical music, this phrasing is fine. You’ll want to adjust it to fit your audience. I’ll update with more versions as time goes by…and if you’ve got one that you like, please share it in the comments.
